Biography:

23 years ago, January 11th 1993, Kim Hyojung's parents did not think that she would make it, as she was born with a serious condition, but her parents were thankfully able to get her taken care off immediately, and she was able to live a happy, healthy life afterward. The complication she faced was called intussusception, a common abdominal issue, that effects children under 2 usually. As a child, she was weak and constantly face complications due to this, so she wasn't always happy. One day, she found peace in music, hearing a love song on the radio. Eyes closed, she began singing along quietly not to disturb her mother who was driving, but it sparked something in her. From that moment on she would always be singing along to any music she heard, especially those loud pop songs her parents tended to love listening to. She was as young as six years old when her parents put her in vocal classes to perfect her talents and see if she really wanted to make something of it. Her little sister had no interest in singing, as a matter of fact, she found her talent in writing stories. Of  course at a young age, the stories were nonsensical and terribly written, but much like Hyolyn's singing, it would grow into something beautiful with age. When people would make fun of her 'big mouth', her mother would always say that God made her mouth big so she could sing. The church choir was where she found her beginning at. Korean choir could be quite animated at times, so it fit her style of singing. Her confidence came from singing about her faith every Sunday and seeing those smiles, hearing the cheering and clapping. It made her feel so good about herself. At the young age of 12, she was able to take on lead parts of the gospel songs at church, this was when it settles inf or sure that performing was a euphoric feeling she never wanted to lose.

Initially, she was going to become a gospel singer, that was her dream, to bring her voice to something that represented her faith, but she fell into the trance of the glitz and glam that came with being a pop star. Singing competitions lead to auditions and when she was 13, she auditioned for one of the biggest companies in South Korea. What inspired Hyolyn to even go on these auditions? What made her want to be  singer? When she saw one of her favorites up there on stage back in the mid 2000s. Something about the stage attracted her, the idea of being adored by many and loved by even more. Attention was the key focus, Hyolyn absolutely loved for attention to be focused on her, and to become an idol, that would make it so easy for her to gain said attention. While hesitant because the whole idol-life thing was something new and interesting to them, her parents signed off for her to debut eventually with this company. Unlike the other girls, Hyolyn wasn't seen as very pretty, or very slim, always getting picked on for her size and skin color, but she rarely ever let that get her down. The one thing she had over all of those girls was a voice that was untouchable. Sometimes the stares became uncomfortable, the whispers about the scar on her stomach that they would see when changing. Just kids being kids, right? No harm, no foul. Finally, at the age of 17, she debuted as the main vocalist of a 5 member group named Five Souls, but her contract was terminated only five months into the debut due to her not being able to lose enough weight at the CEO's request. This hurt her, especially when it only took the group a month to find another main vocalist, who was thin, pale and everything the company wanted. The girl actually ended up becoming a good friend of Hyolyn's, as she sent the girl an apology even though the former main vocalist didn't ask for one, she knew this girl didn't choose to be in the position she once was. This was the beginning idea of a sisterhood outside of her blood-related one in her mind though. This would stick with her for ages to come.

Without letting it completely ruin her, Hyolyn continued to work on her music in a more independent way, finishing her education at the School of Performing Arts in 2012, but college didn't begin for her immediately. As a matter of fact, she decided to use some of the money her parents had given her for school to do some traveling, finding herself, and who she truly waned to be in life. Her first stop was Tokyo, Japan, where she spent six months, meeting writers, artists and junkies, everything in between. Then it was off to Vancouver B.C., where she met and fell in love with her first serious boyfriend. The two of them ended up moving to Seattle together, which was where Hyolyn initially began her college education, but the two ended up breaking up and she found herself back in South Korea of course, with her family and trying to forget the horror that was moving too fast with a man.

Finally, she transferred to Yonsei University in 2014, the place she knew she would end up most likely. Where she found solitude was with the women who eventually became her sisters, Sigma Kappa. These women constantly encouraged her not to give up on her music even though there were times she would put the pen down and be completely done, because they knew just how much she loved music, and this was why she loved them. She knew that she never wanted to touch the idol life again, but as long as she could keep the funds available, she would continue releasing music online for her small following. This brought her back to the idea she had of sisterhood when that girl apologized to her. Women needed to constantly look out for one another and there was no better way to build an everlasting bond with women, than to pledge a sorority where she would gain life long sisters outside of the one she had be blessed with by her parents. Her plan? To give unknown voices a chance. Faceless voices. To keep them from being judged. She had a plan in mind, a website she would be putting up. She wanted importance on talent and less on looks.
